Sustainability

Information engineering, not greenwashing · Updated 12 August 2026

At Wallnut, sustainability covers energy, travel, people and how decisions are recorded. Architecture, engineering and construction under one roof, with our own BIM platform. Digital management helps us coordinate and measure, but we only claim a benefit when we can demonstrate it. Where we can measure, we publish the number. Where we cannot, we say so.

This document covers the WALLNUT group’s operations in Portugal: Inwall, Lda for design and engineering, and Hard Wall Lda for construction. They are separate companies. The indicators do not cover the São Paulo operation unless stated otherwise.

How we handle our energy

We are replacing our diesel passenger fleet with electric vehicles, and we keep diesel only for the cargo vehicles that have no alternative that does the job yet. Charging happens at our own premises or on the client's site.

The rule we follow is this: we publish the baseline and the action, never an invented reduction figure. Until the fuel litres come down, we claim no reduction at all. We count measured litres, not estimates.

And we say what is still unresolved. The Barreiro warehouse, where the fleet mostly charges, is on a contracted green tariff; the Lisbon office is on a standard tariff. We do not yet hold Guarantees of Origin: obtaining them is one of our commitments, and until then we do not treat a contracted tariff as proof of renewable origin. On site, the electricity belongs to the client's installation, and we measure what is ours.

Commuting

The team works a hybrid model, travelling by public transport, electric vehicle or on foot. Avoiding emissions is not the same as reducing them, and we do not count as a reduction something that was never emitted. We publish no avoided-emissions figure here, because we have neither mobility data nor a defined comparison scenario.

How we measure, and what we do not yet measure

We use two voluntary frameworks, and they are not the same thing: EU Level(s), to assess building performance, and VSME, for company reporting, right-sized to us. This report was not prepared under CSRD.

The accounts our fuel figures come from are certified by a chartered accountant. They are not audited by a statutory auditor, and we claim no external assurance. The difference matters, which is why it is written here.

Every indicator we publish carries its reporting period, its scope and its source. Where we do not yet have data, we say we will measure it.

Digital, interoperable information

We work in a common data environment aligned with ISO 19650, without external certification, with IFC and openBIM models and quantity take-off from the model, validated by the person who answers for it.

Automated regulatory checking follows a rule we imposed on ourselves: a rule may only constrain a project once it is linked to its source text and validated by a person. Our rule base does not yet meet that standard in full and is being rebuilt from official sources. Until then, regulatory verification rests with qualified professionals, as it always has. We prefer smaller correct coverage to larger unconfirmed coverage.

These processes do not replace required inspections or professional validation, and we do not attribute environmental reductions to them without measurement.

People and governance

Three of our five executive roles are held by women: CEO, COO, CTO, CPO and CFO, as at 12 August 2026. Source: WALLNUT group internal org chart on that date. It is a snapshot, not a trend, and it will be republished with a date when it changes.

We cost work transparently and keep the record. We prioritise safety and compliant working conditions, without turning legal obligations into claims of leadership. We continue to work towards gender balance in the leadership team, and we report the position on this page with a date.

Current priorities

  • Electrify the passenger fleet and prove the transition with real litres, not estimates.
  • Obtain Guarantees of Origin for our premises and measure electricity consumption per site.
  • Assess renewable fuels for the vehicles we cannot electrify. If we proceed, it will be stated as a fuel switch, naming the fuel and the certification scheme, never as a reduction in consumption, because it does not bring down a single litre.
  • Introduce embodied-carbon assessment on new projects, in phases.
  • Keep this document alive and dated.

What we do not publish

If we cannot demonstrate an indicator, it is not here.

This document is based on Wallnut's sustainability report for the first half of 2026, issued 29 June 2026. Next review planned: December 2026.
